Frequently Asked Questions
Is Hypnosis even real?!
Hypnosis is a legitimate therapeutic technique recognized by major medical organizations. In 1958, the American Medical Association (AMA) acknowledged hypnosis as a valid medical procedure, endorsing its use in treating certain illnesses.
Similarly, the American Psychological Association (APA) recognized hypnosis as a branch of psychology in 1960.
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has recognized clinical hypnosis as a complementary and integrative health (CIH) approach covered under the Veterans medical benefits package when deemed clinically necessary by a care team. This inclusion was formalized in May 2017 with the publication of VHA Directive 1137, titled "Provision of Complementary and Integrative Health."
The directive was recertified in December 2022, reaffirming the VA's commitment to offering evidence-based CIH therapies, including clinical hypnosis, to support Veterans' health and well-being.
Is hypnosis safe?
Yes, the client always remains in complete control of themselves and the situation. At any point in time, a client could choose to get up and leave the room, exit the Zoom session, or take any action they felt necessary in order to be comfortable with the situation.
How does Hypnosis work?
Hypnosis can be described as a state of narrow, concentrated focus, similar to being deeply absorbed in a book or daydream. During hypnosis, a willing* client collaborates with the hypnotherapist to achieve this focused state.
Before the session, the hypnotherapist and client discuss goals, concerns, and desired outcomes. Based on this conversation, the hypnotherapist provides tailored suggestions to guide the client into hypnosis. Once in this state, the client's subconscious mind becomes more receptive to positive suggestions, allowing for meaningful insights and changes to take place.
It's important to note that hypnosis is a collaborative process. The client remains in control throughout the session and can choose to accept or reject any suggestion.
What does hypnosis feel like?
Similarly to meditation; the phenomena of hypnosis is unique to each individual and to each session. The descriptive reports from clients typically present a range starting from: “I felt like I was sitting calmly and listening.” to “I felt like I was in a meditative state.” to “I felt like I was floating…or…not even really in my body…that was cool!”
How long are the sessions?
The first session will typically run an hour and a half; each session after will be approximately one hour.
How many sessions will it take for me to (insert goal)
Each client is unique, and the number of sessions needed depends on the individual and their specific goals. Some clients may feel that their goals are achieved in just one session, while others may choose to continue for several sessions to fully address their needs.
Ultimately, it is up to the client to determine when they feel their goals have been met. During our initial consultation, we’ll discuss your objectives and outline a personalized plan to support your journey.
How much do you charge?
My current rate for 2024: $150/session
Veterans: $100/session
How do I need to prepare for a session?
To ensure an effective and awesome hypnotherapy session, it’s important to take a few simple steps to prepare:
Ensure all your tech works:
Make sure you have the Zoom app installed and ready to go.
Double-check that your session link is accessible.
Verify that your camera is enabled and functioning properly.
Have headphones or earbuds available, fully charged, and connected for optimal audio clarity.
Create a distraction-free environment:
Find a quiet, private place where you can fully focus on your goals.
Secure pets and ask others in your home to give you uninterrupted time during your session.
Taking these steps will help create the ideal environment for a successful and relaxing hypnotherapy experience.
Can hypnosis make me do things against my will?
No. Hypnosis can only be achieved with a willing client and you will ALWAYS remain in control. Any suggestions that do not align with your goals will simply be rejected.
What if I’m nervous about trying hypnosis?
You may not realize this but you actually experience different levels of hypnosis or a trance state at least twice a day (just prior to falling asleep and immediately upon awakening) and perhaps many more if you notice yourself losing track of time or find your attention drifting during a boring conversation.
Have you ever driven somewhere, and upon arriving, not remember the actual drive?
Have you ever been struck with emotion due to reading a book, watching a movie, or listening to a song?
Congrats! You’ve already experienced a form of trance!
Do you offer a free consultation?
Yes! Fill out the “Contact” form and let’s have a 15 - 20min chat about your goals and see if we’re a good fit to work together!
Can anyone be hypnotized? I heard some people can’t be hypnotized.
Yes, and also yes.
Anyone that chooses to experience the phenomena of hypnosis can enter a hypnotic state.
If you say “I can’t be hypnotized!” or “You can’t hypnotize me!” you are also correct.
I (nor any) hypnotist or hypnotherapist can perform hypnosis without a willing participant.
